What is Kiwi Experience all about:
We are an alternative coach travel network developed specifically for backpackers and like-minded independent travellers, allowing you to 'get on and get off' where ever you please along the way.
We are not into tours or boring express services, but trips that link scenic and adventure attractions, taking the time to visit out of the way places, giving you the chance to experience local activities ranging from bush walking to bungy jumping
We get you off the beaten tourist track and offer a realistic impression of our country
With a combination of 'experience' based itineraries, guaranteed frequent departures and uniquely flexible passes, we have invented what many people believe is the ideal transport option for backpackers and like-minded independent travellers

What you get when you travel with us:
Flexibility and Independence: Your travel pass allows you to start at a given location around New Zealand, and travel in one direction until you get back to the place you started. Passes are valid for 6 - 12 months so you can stick to a minimum day itinerary or spend up to a year hopping on and off the bus, exploring all sorts of destinations around the country.
Travel With Like-Minded People: Because the trips are geared for independent travellers, it comes as no surprise that the bus is full of people with a common interest: to get out there and experience the country, culture, adventure activities and social life that is New Zealand
Best Value For Money: Because the trips take the interesting route between the main cities you will actually visit all the areas of interest along the way. This means you won't have to spend any money getting to those out of the way places.
Accommodation Bookings: Accommodation is not included in the passes. You pay for accommodation as you go. We believe this is the best way because we will make accommodation bookings for you for free and then drop you off and pick you up at the door of your chosen hostel / motel / bed and breakfast. That way you are independent and can choose to stay with a group or head off by yourself for a night.
Activity Bookings / Discounts: Discounts for activities are provided 'exclusively' to Kiwi Experience passengers. Your driver / guide can book you on these activities and arrange pick ups / drop off times for you with the operator. A bonus of travelling on Kiwi Experience is that we often have places reserved on certain activities during peak season. Therefore, we can get you a spot on an activity you really want to partake in, even though it may be closed to the general public.
Flash Green Buses: Our buses are built for backpackers and feature air con, great stereos, videos to watch your videos of sky-diving, bungy-jumping etc, and enough room to carry surfboards, bikes and other equipment you decide to bring along for free.
Outstanding driver / guides: From the day we started our driver guides have been our number one rating feature. They come from a wide range of backgrounds, from lawyers to adventure guides. They will show you around, give you down to earth information along the way and generally entertain you / participate in all activities with you along the way and make sure all your accommodation and activity bookings are taken care of around New Zealand.

Kiwi Experience may be described as a down to earth company driven by a team of young people from a diverse range of backgrounds, motivated to provide travellers with a realistic impression of New Zealand. We are not into tours or express services and get you off the beaten track and into the areas of the country where 'tourists' seldom venture.
The company has been recognised for its excellence by the New Zealand tourism association, and has attained the honour of winning a New Zealand tourism award twice, the most recent being the 2002 best transport award, whilst making the finals of the 2000 and 2001 awards.
History:
Kiwi Experience is the pioneer of backpacker transport which allows travellers to 'get on and get off' along the way. It is not only the concept, which remains a key factor in our operations but also the benefits that it creates. When three ex-backpackers started the business in 1989 they created the concept to provide flexibility for travellers. Since then Kiwi Experience has developed the product again and again and again, to ensure flexibility and choice are key benefits provided to travellers whilst travelling around New Zealand on the Kiwi Bus.
The company has evolved since the beginning of operations in 1989, when buses were not so reliable and the owners old Holden HQ was substituted for a bus in some instances. The first passenger on a Kiwi Experience bus was in fact 'Gyro', a dog that remains the symbol of our company and acts as a reminder of the core values of our business.
Following the successful launch of Kiwi Experience in New Zealand we expanded operations into Australia in 1994. Oz Experience provides an equivalent service in Australia, and the company's are still owned and operated by Kiwi's and Aussies from down under.
Our drivers have remained the most important people in our company since the beginning of operations, and we are confident that our selection process and annual drivers training trip selects only the best candidates for the task. The drivers provide you with a realistic impression of our country, giving you good honest commentary, whilst providing you with endless entertainment along the way. If you need advice on accommodation, or guidance on many of our free activities along the way then your driver will help out. Don't tell them but they are the hardest workers in our company and we put our success down to them.
Operational Details:
Kiwi Experience has a fleet of 23 'Green' busses. Most of the fleet is made up of B10 coaches; this may not mean much to you, but basically they are 49 seater buses with air-conditioning, great stereos, videos, large see-through windows and wheels. The size of the busses provides you with greater flexibility in areas where you need it. Because there are 49 seats available this means that you have the freedom to jump on and off the bus wherever you like and are not restricted by smaller busses which do not have to room to allow you to do as you please.
The larger bus also provides you with the choice of becoming involved in a group if that is the experience you are looking for, or branching out as a couple or individual, exercising your choice of accommodation, activities and stopovers along the way.
In some areas of the country we utilise smaller buses or vans to transport you around. This offers passengers the chance to step right off the tourist track into places where even a lot of New Zealanders have never ventured little lone the average tourist.
